This lovely water lily and lily pads were done by Ashley, my granddaughter. This is her own creation and is made of several pieces of gourds. the lily is made from a very large top of a bottle gourd and the inside is a smaller top of a bottle gourd. Then she cut the petals and lily pads from pieces of other gourds. The center of the lily is seeds of a gourd painted yellow. It can be used in the water or as a table decoration. The two lamps were also done by Ashley. |

First I want to share with you pictures of some great gourd craft work by students at Our Lady Queen of Heaven School in Lake Charles, La. The gourds were purchased, from Gourd Gracious, by a wonderful lady, Mrs. Gloria Hebert. She has been a wonderful patron of the arts to this school for several years. She cleans, drills, and patches the gourds and they are then presented to the students to design and paint. This is the class of 2008. The fourth grade students made Christmas ornaments from miniature gourds. The 7th and 8th graders had to create an original design using red, white, blue and symbols of our nation. The 8th graders did cats and the 7th graders did birdhouses or masks. You will also see flowers made from scrap pieces of gourds made by some 8th graders for their spring play entitled "The Secret Garden". The 6th and 7th graders aslo did a study of Vincent Van Gogh and had to adapt his famous painting "The Starry Night" to either a bowl or a birdhouse. Please, sign the guestbook provided especially for these young people and let them know how much you enjoyed looking at their work. They all did a great job! Thanks for sharing these with us. |
